Andrea Rognoni is an internationally renowned Italian violinist specialising in historically informed performance. He is dedicated to the rediscovery and recording of unknown and lost works from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries.

Andrea regularly collaborates as leader of the first and second violins with the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles. He is concertmaster of Europa Galante and has performed with Fabio Biondi in concerts and recordings for labels such as Virgin Classics, Naïve and Agogique. He has worked with leading early music ensembles and orchestras, including the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, Accademia Bizantina, I Barocchisti, Concerto Italiano, Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Ensemble Zefiro, Collegium Vocale Gent, Kammerorchester Basel and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris.

As a soloist, Andrea has appeared in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Teatro Real, Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Centre, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Tonhalle Zurich, Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Auditorio Nacional de Música, the Tokyo Opera House and the Sydney Opera House.

Andrea has recorded works by Cremonese composers such as Gasparo Visconti, Carlo Zuccari, Andrea Zani and Tarquinio Merula for the label MV Cremona, and has released more than 50 recordings for labels including Tactus, Decca, Glossa, Sony, Brilliant Classics, Arts, Erato and Claves. His performances have been broadcast by major international radio and television networks.

Is a founding member of the AleaEnsemble, an ensemble dedicated to the performance of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century music on period instruments. The ensemble’s recordings include Mozart’s Divertimento KV 563, Bruni’s Six Concertante Duets and Haydn’s string quartets. Their recording of Boccherini’s String Quartets, Op. 2, received both the Diapason d’Or and the Choc de Le Monde de la Musique. The ensemble was also the first ever to record Boccherini’s String Quartets, Op. 15, on period instruments.

From 2016 to 2019, Andrea held a teaching position at the Verona Conservatoire, and since 2019 he has been Professor of Baroque Violin at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan.

Andrea is a member of the Artistic board of the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra and is actively involved in educational work, collaborating on projects such as CuE (Cuban–European Youth Academy) and Nova, a recent European educational initiative promoting music, culture and the training of young musicians.

Born in Cremona in 1973, Andrea began studying the violin at the age of eight at the Monteverdi School of Music. He graduated in 1996 from the Nicolini Conservatoire in Piacenza, where he studied with Fabio Biondi, and attended masterclasses with Giuliano Carmignola, Alexander Lonquich and Pavel Vernikov.
